How many did you partake in last year?
Now, with 2018 ramping up, we’ve got a list of geeky events that will keep even the nerdiest natives busy for the rest of the year.
1. ChargerCon – February 10
UAH hosts the ChargerCon, the event that highlights gaming and other tech, video game and tabletop tournaments, cosplay contest, workshops, demos, a retro arcade, and free play areas. It’s free and open to the public!
2. 2018 Huntsville Comic and Pop Culture Expo – February 24-25
Comics and other pop culture fans unite at the expo at Von Braun Center.
3. Huntsville Comic Con – March 30-31
Lowe Mill A&E’s own con is in March and will feature more for comics fans. Hosted in part by their own resident comic artists!
4. Yuri’s Night – TBD April
Celebrate the cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin! The party will go on all night.
5. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial in Concert – April 14
Everyone’s favorite friendly alien ET is going to be at Von Braun Center in the concert by Huntsville Symphony Orchestra!
6. Avengers – Infinity War – May 4
The start of the culmination of the three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on May 4! Catch it in 3D, 2D, IMAX, or whatever your preference.
7. Free Comic Book Day – May 5
Continue to celebrate the comic book world at Deep, Haven, and other comic shops around town by picking up free comics – kids and adults! Look for other specials and cosplay as well.
8. The Book of Mormon at VBC – May 9-13
When you combine the creators of South Park with the writers of Avenue Q, you get a hilarious and irreverent comedy.
9. Solo: A Star Wars Story – May 25
Another Star Wars movie just 5 months after the last one, this spin-off will focus on everyone’s favorite smuggler.
10. Con*Kasterborous – June 9-10
Who-vians unite at Con*Kasterborous, one of the top cons in the area!
11. HAMACON 9 – June 22-24
The anime convention at VBC is always a delight, with guests and vendors set up to satisfy the long-time fan or kindle the interest of someone new to anime.
12. Dixie Derby Girl’s Star Wars Night – July 21
Huntsville’s own roller derby league holds a Star-Wars-themed night on July 21. Get your local bruise here!
13. Huntsville Restaurant Week – August TBD
Visit your favorite local restaurants, like ToyBox Bistro, Pints & Pixels, Supper Heroes, and others to dine local and partake in any specials for the week-long celebration of Huntsville cuisine.
14. TEDxHuntsville 2018 – TBD Sep
With Huntsville continuing to be the epitome of Technology + Entertainment + Design, the annual TEDxHuntsville conference is always a mix of the amazing, the educational, and the cutting edge.
15. Astronomy Day & Observe the Moon Night at the Space Center – TBD Oct
Join the Von Braun Astronomical Society for an evening spent looking up at the night sky among the rockets that got us there.
16. UAH Hockey starts – TBD Oct
Huntsville is the hockey capital of the south! Support your local college hockey team as their season starts in the fall.
17. DevSpace Conference – October 12-13
Huntsville’s annual developer’s conference at the VBC, or AKA North Alabama’s Premier
Polyglot Technology Conference. Definitely belongs on this geeky list!
18. Rocket City NerdCon – November 3-4
The Huntsville/Madison County Public Library’s annual con on all things nerdy is in November, and as always, promises to have something for every nerd.
19. Fantastic Beasts 2 – November 16
The sequel to the prequel of Harry Potter will be magical.
20. Nerdy Noel – December 9
Get your nerdy holiday shopping done at one place at Nerdy Noel, organized by Komai’s Oh My!
