Sights & Sounds from the Planets at Neighborhood Earth

As a youngster, I was fascinated with space.
What small child isn’t?

I loved going to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center to learn more about the vast universe outside of the little blue and green planet I lived on.
Which is why the little kid inside of me was ecstatic the day I checked out the new “Neighborhood Earth” exhibit at, you guessed it, the Space and Rocket Center.

 

Neighborhood Earth

Because this was the world premiere of “Neighborhood Earth”, I was totally unprepared for the space age encounter waiting for me.
Intricate models and interactive technology bring the solar system to life in ways both young children and full grown adults will love.
Some of my favorite features of the exhibit include:

• Weighted bags to simulate the weight of gravity on each planet
• Miniature models of satellites launched into space
• Interactive kiosks with holographic imagery and stats of each planet
• Astronaut simulation that puts the user on different planets
• 3-D Printed models of buildings visitors can use to “build their colony” on Mars

But by far the best part of the exhibit is saved for last, as you enter a room with floor to ceiling screens that surround visitors with the sights and sounds from the planets.
