Here is our list of 10 ways to spend Father’s Day without breaking the bank.
#1: NASA in the Park
This free event is actually on Saturday June 18, but is a great way to spend time with Dad if you can’t do it on Sunday. It’s a fun day.
Bonus Points: Bring some quarters and feed the ducks.
#2: Build a Rocket
Dad’s get in free with at least one paid admission at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. Build, engineer and launch a rocket while you’re there!
Bonus Points: Buy your Dad a souvenir in the gift shop to commemorate the day.
#3: Picnic in Monte Sano State Park
Enjoy a relaxing day on the mountain with a picnic lunch. Bring a few bucks for State Park entrance.
#4: Go for a hike
Grab a couple water bottles and some trail mix to head to the closest hiking trail or greenway for a fun (and FREE) Father’s Day experience.
Bonus Points: Take selfies with Dad. Print up the pictures & give as a momento.
#5: Putt Putt Through Downtown
Father’s Day is the perfect afternoon to try out the Downtown Open, Downtown Huntsville, Inc’s FREE outdoor urban golf course that runs through the Downtown area (opening on June 17)!
#6: Berry Picking
It’s prime berry picking season! Take advantage and head to one of the area’s U-Picks and get all the berries you can carry.
Bonus points: Make your dad a pie with your collections.
#7: Beer Tasting
Is your dad a fan of craft beer? Take him to one of Huntsville’s local breweries for a sampling of the area’s best brews.
Bonus points: Buy your dad some of his favorite brew to take home.
#8: Canoe the Flint River
Feeling adventurous? Spend a day/ afternoon / weekend of canoeing or kayaking on the Flint River. Don’t have the equipment? NACK & Flint River Outdoor Center will hook you up!
#9: Go Fishing
It’s a Father’s Day classic: go fishing. While you’re waiting for the fish to bite talk about the meaning of life, love, and what you had for breakfast.
