Green Mountain
Madison County Nature Preserve
Just 15 minutes away from John Hunt Park, you can enjoy a break from the city on the beautiful Green Mountain. The Madison County Nature Trail is the original home stead of the Green family and is the perfect setting for nature lovers of all ages. Enjoy a one mile walk around Sky Lake and discover the outdoor classroom, chapel, covered bridge, and more!

Land Trust of North Alabama Green Mountain Nature Preserve – Alum Hallow Trail
If you have an hour or two and want a more challenging hike – check out the Alum Hallow Trail on Green Mountain. Hikers can enjoy the Alum Hallow Cave, Alum Hallow Waterfall, and a gorgeous view of the Tennessee river. This trail is easy to navigate with one steep downclimb towards the end of the trail. This is a great trail for novice hikers, or more experienced hikers wanting a scenic route.

Ditto Landing
Twelve minutes away from John Hunt Park lies the mighty Tennessee River and Ditto Landing. On the southern edge of Huntsville, Ditto Landing provides a picturesque setting, with lush green forest, and mountain foothills. Bring your fishing pole, bass, brim and catfish are plentiful in the Tennessee River and along the watershed. Ditto Landing is also home of the Tennessee River Greenway, a one mile trail along the river. Looking for a great place to watch an Alabama sunset? Park at the pavilion and enjoy a gorgeous sunset along the Tennessee River.

The Graduation Mural
A temporary mural to celebrate the class of 2020 can be found on the Southside of Haysland Square. When COVID delayed Haysland Square’s demolition, the owners decided to commission an artist to create a masterpiece to celebrate 2020 graduates.
