Whether looking to escape the scorching heat of a Rocket City summer or simply longing for the lazy days of a long overdue vacation, few things can transport you like a delicious frozen drink.
In case you were wondering where you might find the most delicious, unique and, in some cases, somewhat strange ice-filled creations, good news, I took the brain freeze hit for the team and compiled what I found to be my frosty frontrunners.

Seasonal Fruit Slushies
A short drive west on University Drive, just beyond Wall Triana Highway and across the street from the Madison Target, you’ll find the Mom and Pop joint, S & J Produce Farms.
Sure, this is a perfectly delightful spot to pick up your locally grown fruits and veggies or Amish jellies but, I’m here for the apple cider slushy!
With that first slurp of simple sweetness followed by just enough tart to make your cheeks twinge with delight, these go down oh so easy. Upon my visit, I was told to expect peach next time around and can think of little else (Let me see, where ARE those business hours?)
Lemonade, Sweet Tea and Dill Pickle?
First off, let me say, I am aware this is an article about frozen drinks, but I wouldn’t be doing you any favors if I didn’t mention the chili dogs at Five Points Snack Shack. Also, the pimento jalapeno hotdog and taco burger and Frito chili pie – you get the idea.
Back to the realm of slushy greatness, these folks are home to lemonade slushies, sweet tea slushies, Arnold Palmer slushies and…remember that mention of “somewhat strange” in the opening? Welp, you heard it here first, this is your go-to local spot for the Dill Pickle Slushy!
Mambo Taxi, Sangrita, etc.
Can we all just stop and take a moment to appreciate the incomparable genius of whoever decided to put sangria in a margarita for the first time?
This is a personal favorite of mine and lots of folks do them well. Heck, Rosie’s Mexican Cantina is practically frozen-beverage-famous for their version called the “Mambo Taxi”!
Featured here? My beloved “Sangrita” from Taco Mama, it’s limeade, Sprite, Corona, the perfect swirl of Sangria and Blanco tequila bliss!
Key Lime Gose Slushy
As Stewart of Innerspace Brewing puts it, this drink is “like getting slapped in the face by a wave at the beach!” Think of a classic Margarita but with the fabulous twist of local craft beer vibes.
It’s all things refreshing and crisp with a lime bite and salty finish. Sadly it’s not around all the time, so make sure you check their Facebook for availability. Good news though, if you can’t get it frozen, you will often still find Key Lime Gose on tap in its strictly liquid form.
After many hours of selfless service to my Huntsville community, these were some of the most intriguing finds along the way.
Sure, I saw my fair share of Bushwhackers and Daiquiris and Pina Coladas, but I’m always down to try the wine slushy, space-themed oddity and plain old “what were they thinking?!” of the world.
