Dear Stephanie:
As a young HSV native, you’ve grown up with the Land Trust of North Alabama – the state’s first land trust now celebrating 30 years of saving land success.
You mentioned seven great places for free fun. Welcome to the Eighth Wonder of our community: the 65+ miles of natural, multi-use trails built and maintained by the Land Trust! These beautiful trails are on at least six Nature Preserves and more preserves are in the works. Please become a Land Trust member to help keep the trails in top condition.
Trail maps are may be downloaded from their website. The Land Trusts invites residents and visitors to enjoy the Nature Preserves year ’round from dawn to dusk. #landtrustnal LandTrustNAL.org
Once you discover the wildflowers and waterfalls, I bet these special preserved places will also become some of your favorites!
Thanks for the reminder Cathie!
Rainbow Mtn has some great hiking trails. Also, if you have your own boat there is the flint river that is nice to kayak down, if one doesn’t have their own boats the Nack rents them.
Great list, but please don’t forget to mention that there is a $5/person park entry fee for Monte Sano, which helps to preserve the trails for all to enjoy. Annual memberships are also available.
