Okay, so at first glance, a hotel in St. Louis (which is 7 hours away) doesn’t seem to have a place in Our Valley Events, but I found a loophole.

The hotel is all about the moon, and since our little town put people on the moon, it totally counts.
Yeah-huh it does!
Anyway, the hotel itself is found in the area of St. Louis called the Delmar Loop.
It’s kind of the cool, indie, boho district. Tons of little shops and restaurants, and a great place to walk around unless you choose the worst month of the year to visit.
Seriously, January kind of sucks if you’re in one of those states that actually get things like winter. I saw snowflakes.
Fortunately, we found the coolest hotel in the universe to keep us warm.
The Moonrise Hotel is all about the moon.
Moooooooooooon!
There are moon drawings everywhere. Moon memorabilia.
If it exists and has an astronaut on it, they have it in the display case. Even the hotel bar is called Eclipse.
There is a gigantic moon on top of the building.
Side-note: I totally wanted to climb up to the moon and write CHA on it. A few people would get the joke. But a lot more would see it as vandalism. Also, it was cold.
Speaking of crime, I wanted to steal everything in this place. Some people steal towels… I wanted to take the light fixtures, the mirrors, the lamps, the couch, the chairs, ALL THE THINGS.
If you love retro 50s style, you will want to live there. I wish my staircase was multi colored and lit up.
There are two bars because, in a cool hotel, one is never enough. You can find one in the restaurant downstairs, and the other is on the roof. Again, if we weren’t in Arctic tundra weather, it would have been awesome. I went out there long enough to take a few pictures. That’s about it. But the indoor portion had stars and planets on the ceiling because moon. Also, open till 3:00 am.
Keeping with the atomic age theme, there’s a bowling alley next door – Pinup Bowl. This one I didn’t have time to go to, but it looked pretty cool.
It’s a boutique hotel, so expect higher prices. We stayed 3 nights and it added up to over $700.
If you want to spend even more, they have Walk of Fame rooms based on famous St. Louis folks. I really wanted to book the Agnes Moorehead room. But I have to say, as fan of the beat writers I’m disappointed they don’t have a William S. Burroughs room, but then again it’s probably not legal to decorate with that much heroin.
The Moonrise Hotel is a pet-friendly hotel located at 6177 Delmar Blvd in St. Louis, Missouri. More info can be found at MoonriseHotel.com.
