One of the most popular events hosted by Huntsville Young Professionals is the yearly Santa Bar Crawl in Downtown Huntsville. This year, the crew hits the bars on Saturday, December 17.
It is the pinnacle of holiday parties and is sure to get everyone in a festive mood.

For those that are new to the crawl, it is pretty simple: people dress up in festive holiday and winter attire, meet up at the first bar and then move from one bar to another after a certain period of time.
This will be my fourth time attending the Santa Bar Crawl and I can say it is easily my favorite party of the holiday season, so if you are a newcomer looking to make the most out of the crawl, I have a few tips for you below.
Tips for Your First Santa Bar Crawl
1. Wear an actual costume.
And no, I am not talking about wearing a red and white Santa coat and antlers over your normal clothes.
Take the time out to put together a winter or Christmas themed outfit – it could be Jack Frost, Rudolph, a Menorah, anything holiday themed. There could even be a million different ways to dress up as Santa. Last year I was Pirate Santa, and the Year before that Punk Santa. This is the perfect opportunity to get creative.
2. Dress for the weather.
Even though we live in the South, sometimes the weather can be bitterly cold. Be sure to check the forecast beforehand and keep in mind that you will be spending part of the time outside walking. It’s great to have a killer costume but not so great if you spend half the time cold and miserable.
3. Be nice.
The arrival of Santa’s Little Drinkers will make the bar staff at every stop a little busier. Please be polite to the employees, and be sure to tip before you leave.
4. Pace yourself.
The bar crawl starts at 7:00 pm and hits about four different bars in the Downtown Huntsville area. It’s easy to get sloshed quickly, so if you want to stay out until the bars close down (or be able to remember the night the next day) go slow and stay hydrated.
5. Get a safe ride home.
With Uber now available in Huntsville, it is easier than ever to get a safe ride home. Taxis also post up in the downtown area, and there is at least one person in the bar crawl crew who is the official DD. Always make sure you have a safe ride home planned out.
