My Hero: A Super New Exhibit at Huntsville Museum of Art

The coolest thing to be in this day and age is a superhero.

After viewing the release of the new Suicide Squad movie and living my dream as Catwoman at this year’s Dragon*Con, I was riding high and looking for my next fix.

Because Huntsville is basically Nerd City (which I love) I didn’t have to look for very long.

My Hero: Contemporary Art and Superhero Action

Huntsville Museum of Art is joining the craze as they unveil their newest exhibit, My Hero: Contemporary Art and Superhero Action.

Opening September 11 and running to December 11, My Hero is an examination and celebration of superheroes in pop culture.

Featuring over 50 international artists, this exhibit explores our fascination with superhumans through painting, photography, sculpture, video and more.

While museum-goers will have three months to check this amazing exhibit out, there will be an Opening Gallery Walk on September 11 from 2 – 3 pm.

This includes an Opening Day Program featuring an artist in the My Hero gallery, Mark Newport, with a discussion on his pieces, and Highlight Tour of the exhibit by a Museum docent. Both events start at 2 pm.

3 Tips for Visiting an Art Museum

1) Use inside voices

Try not to get too loud while visiting an art museum – it could ruin the experience for other museum goers. No horseplay!

2) Do ask questions if you have them

If you see a museum employee or guide, feel free to test out your artistic knowledge on them.

3) Check out other exhibits

If it is included in the general admission fee, check out the rest of what the museum has to offer. Huntsville Museum of Art has a wide variety of both traveling and permanent exhibits, so get exploring!
