Do you have the Need for Speed while also possessing a competitive streak?
Do you live by the Ricky Bobby motto: “If you ain’t first, you’re last”?

There’s a new opportunity in town to live your high powered dreams at Veloce Indoor Speedway. This high powered go kart track opened last month in Huntsville and is already the go-to place for an adrenaline fueled good time.
I decided to put the pedal to the metal last week and give Veloce Indoor Speedway a little test drive (I’m done with the racing puns, I promise).
Here is my experience on the track, as well as some helpful tips for your first time on the speedway.
Veloce Indoor Speedway
First thing, you will need to register and create a racer profile. This can be done online or at the speedway in one of their registration kiosks.
I was able to create a profile (complete with racer name) online before I showed up. Registering is necessary before you can sign up to race. There are also Adult and Junior waivers to sign before hitting the track.
One thing that is important are the wait times.
I showed up on a weseknight because weekends are usually booked already at this place. Even weeknights are crowded, so arrive as early as you possibly can. Unfortunately you cannot sign up for races ahead of time, racing is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The first thing I noticed when walking in was the décor – the waiting area and registration table was sleek, with black leather couches and colorful blown up images of go-kart racers.
Huge glass windows line the back wall, giving people a view of the go kart track.
There is also a small sectioned off area inside the track with chairs and tables for people who want a close-up view of the action.
The Race
Finally, our racer names were called and we stepped out into the track.
Helmets were chosen off of a rack and we were strapped in our designated go karts, arranged in a single file line.
Once we got the cue, we slowly eased our way onto the track.
Something must have kicked in immediately after we left our line, because once I was headed down the speedway my kart suddenly amped up the speed.
Soon I was sliding through turns and flying down the track…or so I thought, until I saw the rest of the racers passing me and then double lapping me.
I finished dead last, which was further proven by the stat sheet each racer was handed at the end of the session, which included average speed and time taken to complete a lap.
Even though I ended up driving like a grandma, zipping around in the tiny go kart making not-so-graceful turns was a blast, and the perfect activity for date night or a group night out.
Tips
- Try to arrive as early as possible.
It gets busy, and the later you arrive the longer you have to wait. The last race on weeknights is at 9:30pm, and it can be all booked up by the time you get to the speedway, so arrive early in the night.
- Fill out everything beforehand.
You don’t have to do this, but you will have to spend more time there filling out the forms before you can sign up to race.
- Don’t be afraid of the wall.
The walls on the racing track have springs behind them, so running into them isn’t as harsh as running into a regular wall. Plus, it bounces you back onto the track if you get stuck.
- Speed to your little heart’s content.
This one is pretty self-explanatory.
