I love October for a variety of reasons.
Fall has officially started.
Plus, October kicks off the holiday season (and yes, I’m counting Halloween as a holiday).
After having lived in Huntsville for a little over 5 years, here are just some of the reasons why I freak out every October in Huntsville:
1. I can finally put out my Halloween decorations.
2. Annual Haunt at Three Caves which is a party hosted at a historic former limestone mine, put on by the Huntsville Young Professionals.
3. Premiere of the Walking Dead–Speaking of, who else is watching the prequel series Fear the Walking Dead?
4. Huntsville Ghost Walks — Livability.com even listed Huntsville as one of “Eight cities with great ghost tours.” I normally take my dog Riley along for the walk too!
5. Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now I know this isn’t for everyone, but I believe everyone (adults) should at least go once 🙂
6. Hiking and camping. The cooler weather + less chance of snakes (I hope) makes me a happy camper.
7. I love checking out the Madison Street Festival every year.
8. Picking out a pumpkin at Tate Farms.
9. Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll–it is really neat seeing costumed characters share stories about those buried in one of the largest cemeteries in Alabama.
10. And of course, handing out candy on Halloween!
What else do you love about October in Huntsville?

The Maple Hill Cemetery stroll mentions bringing his dog. I do not think dogs are welcome inside the Cemetery? You may want to check. I would love to bring mine too. 256-652-7376
Hi Mike,
You are correct that dogs are not welcome inside Maple Hill Cemetery. The author takes her dog on the Ghost Walks in Downtown Huntsville. Fun fact that you probably know already though is that many of the Ghost Walk folks are also part of the Cemetery Stroll!
Thank you!
