Think Shakespeare is all stuffy people reciting words you can’t understand in old costumes? Think again!

UAH Theatre’s latests production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream looks and sounds more like 1960’s music video. Think Twiggy, micro minis, trippy projections.

Not your standard Bard.

Why You Should Go

If you tend to shy away from Shakespeare or theater in general because you think it’s boring, this is a great show for you.

It’s fast-paced and full of jokes (even some dirty ones!). Shakespeare packed this play full of fairies (in our show all dressed in awesome 60’s micro-minis) who like to make trouble.

Ok well maybe just one. That would be me.

The Cast

There are some familiar faces in this cast that you might recognize, one of them being ME! That alone just might be reason enough to see the show (kidding, kidding… but not really).

Shakespeare Meets Tech

For those of you that require action sequences or special effects in their entertainment we’ve got you covered! Seriously!! Remember, this is a Huntsville show, after all.

Instead of using more traditional backdrops & scenery with the setting of the play simply painted on, our production uses a combination of digital projections and lights to set the scene. Depending on the scene you may see apartment buildings, a fairy forest or crazy LSD moving graphics & more…

And have I mentioned sound? Some of our cast members (the more enchanted ones lets say) wear microphones to give our voices an extra special dose of magic. Bonus: in Act 2 you may even hear some super duper effects on a certain Goodfellow…

The Plot

An enchanted forest in a mythical Athens sets the stage for the adventures of four star-crossed lovers, a group of amateur actors preparing for a show, a duke and duchess, a handsome fairy king, a misguided parent, a weaver who’s transformed into a half-donkey, wood sprites, and last but not least, Puck (aka me) the trickster elf who knows falling in love can make fools of us all.

Who Should Go

Anyone looking for a fun night out. But speaking more to age, I would recommend this show for middle schoolers and up.

There are quite a few sexual jokes (seriously Shakespeare loved the dirty jokes) and our cast is very good at making sure you understand the joke.

That being said, this play would be a great introduction to Shakespeare for anyone.
