Are you wanting to work on your New Year’s Resolutions to get healthy or just start running 3, 6 or even 13 miles, but don’t know the first step (literally)?
Well, here’s a way to get to the starting — and finishing — line. Fleet Feet Sports of Huntsville, one of the nation’s top 50 running stores, has training programs for everyone. And, we mean everyone — big or small, old or young, experienced or experienced, runner or walker.
Stay Motivated and Moving
The 5K programs (3.1 miles) are called No Boundaries and they’re designed for people who are currently inactive or new to walking and running. It’s a 10-week program, sponsored by New Balance and offered at Fleet Feet Sports stores across the country, that has run and walk options with professional coaches and a team atmosphere with the camaraderie of others like you.
Throughout the program, weekly group training sessions will keep you motivated and moving and the educational clinics cover topics such as proper nutrition, choosing the right gear and avoiding injury.
Each program has a goal race and the upcoming ones include –
- I Race Because I Care 5K (April 4), which kicks off Jan. 20 with training Jan. 27
- Cookie Dash (April 18), which kicks off Feb. 3 with training Feb. 9
- Cotton Row 5K Run (May 25), kicking off March 10 with training starting March 16
- PCRA 5K in Priceville (May 30), kicking off March 17 with training March 23
There’s also a No Boundaries II Advance Training program for Cotton Row, kicking off March 10 with training March 19, if you’d like to improve on your current 5K time.
Next Steps

If you’d like to run a 10K (6.2 miles), there is the Next Steps program for Cotton Row, kicking off March 11 with training March 18. If you’d like to train for a 13.1 half marathon, it kicks off Jan. 13 with training starting on Jan. 17.
It’s easy to sign up for any of the training programs. Fleet Feet’s training programs range between $95-$150. The program costs don’t include the entry fees for the races you’re training for.

Hear It
If you’re more interested in the triathlons (and more on those training programs at a later date), Fleet Feet Sports is sponsoring a new radio program on WTKI-AM 1450/WEKI 92.9 FM hosted by SwimBikeRun.com. starting Jan. 18 (Sunday) at 5 pm.
The hour-long program will feature local athletes, race directors and businesses involved in the multi-sport community promoting swim, bike and run events in North Alabama.
