August 15 – 24, 2014 is a time for foodie celebration! That’s the week of Huntsville Restaurant Week, which is part of the larger Alabama Restaurant Week. Which means there are lots of fun events, great deals, and (of course) fabulous food to be had!
First the events:
A Night with the Chefs is August 14 at Straight to Ale. Christy Jordan from Southern Plate will be hosting as local chefs share their personal and professional philosophies. Tickets are $25 and proceeds will benefit Deep Roots.
Rocket City Food Blogger’s Tour: On August 15, 16, and 17, local food bloggers (including yours truly) will gather at a participating restaurant for lunch.
Naturally, we’ll talk food, take pictures, and then blog it up. But here is the best part: each blogger has one seat to giveaway to a reader!
To enter, tweet about your favorite local dining experience with the hashtag #dinehsv and tag me in it @mrsdragon. The giveaway will close August 10.
Then the deals:
Each participating restaurant is putting together specials just for this week. You will see two course lunch specials priced at $5, $10, or $15 and three course dinner specials priced at $10, $20, and $30. So this is a good chance to try a new spot, or a new dish at an old favorite!
With 37 participating restaurants there are LOTS to choose from (you would have to be eating more than one lunch and dinner each day to try them all!). I’m especially looking forward to the offerings from these spots:
And of course, the food! Here are a couple of the specific dishes which caught my eye:
June Brasserie’s
Juno Brasserie’s $15 lunch special of Mediterranean Chicken Grecque Salad with homemade bread and choice of soup sounds like an excellent way to try this new French spot.

Commerce Kitchen
Commerce Kitchen’s $30 dinner special gives several options, but I’d pair fried green tomatoes, buttermilk fried chicken, and the burbon milk chocolate pecan pie for a special night out.
Given the way the weather is going, it might even be nice enough to enjoy on their new patio area.
