Daikaiju is coming back home to headline a show at Copper Top Dive N Dine on July 3, 2014 at 9pm!
They are back to promote their second album “Monsters of Surf” featuring 22 tracks of surf-rock compilations. And they didn’t come without friends!
They’ve brought Round Eye, a synthpop group from Shanghai, China and Georgia’s popular hip hop duo Hey! Alligator.
You really don’t want to miss this uniquely Huntsville performance!
Wait, what? You don’t know who Daikaiju is?!
Styling themselves as action heroes in red and white Kabuki masks, Dakaijui is one of Huntsville’s most successful and original bands.
Merging surfer rock and Japanese monster flicks, the quartet has a thunderous sound tempered with exoticism.
That exotic twist distinguishes them from predecessors like Ventures and third wave bands Tiki Tones and The Merman. In short they aren’t at all the surfer rock you’re used to.
More Than Surfer Rock
Daikaiju’s high-voltage performances feature reverb-tastic guitar feats, driving bass lines, precise drum strikes and aggressive progressions.
Yet the sound is never too forceful or sloppy. The balance between tempo and power is flawless, so while bold the melodies maintain order.
Clever extras like the stampeding tom toms like in “The Trouble with Those Mothra Girls” converge to transmit dynamic energy fueling the crowd’s excitement. It’s like a beautiful a hurricane of sound.
On stage the masked quartet transform into Japanese champions of surfer-rock, rescuing it from obscurity.
The three Japanese kanji symbols for “kabuki” mean “music” “dance” and “skill.” Daikaiju truly emulates these traits, captivating the crowd with music and theatrics that take live performance and surfer rock beyond your wildest expectations.

About the Author: Sharon Singletary
Ok, lets just get this out of the way now: Sharon hates cheese. No she is not allergic, and yes she knows you are judging her already. But look at the brightside, this just means more cheese for you! Sharon is a Huntsville native (well Hazel Green is close enough) and proud graduate of Auburn University. She obtained a BA in Art History and minor in technical writing; because research papers just didn’t provide enough outlets for her need to research and write about it. But basically she loves art and performance, and of course talking about it on her blog Art For a Hungry Sharebear. After landing a sweet job with Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment as Historian and Assistant Gallery Coordinator, Sharon has been pleased to rediscover Huntsville, and appreciates how much the art and music scene in her hometown have grown. There is always so much going on she can’t decide what to do, and that’s how she likes it.
