On February 8th, from 10:00 AM – 3PM the Davidson Center of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center will be filled with more than 30 exhibitors from private schools, homeschools, public schools, and education-related businesses and resources for the Learning Expo 2014. The day will also include several guest speakers, along with a some stellar entertainment, all presented in the 3D Digital theater. 

Entertainment headliner and magician Steve Trash, the “Rockin’ Eco Hero”, will perform two shows for families at 10:00 AM and again at 2:00 PM. If you’ve never seen an Eco-Trash Show, you’re in for a treat.

5 Reasons to Attend the Learning Expo 2014

If you are reading this and thinking to yourself, “Well, that sounds nice but I’m not sure why I need to go,” let me give you five reasons you might need to attend Learning Expo 2014. Apologies to Jeff Foxworthy.

#5:  If you have ever considered private education, you might need to attend Learning Expo 2014

With several area private schools sending representatives to the expo, you’ll be able to walk from table to table and easily talk with and get admissions information from numerous programs in just a couple of hours (something that would normally take days and a whole lot of gas).

#4: If you currently homeschool or have ever thought you’d like homeschool, you might need to attend Learning Expo 2014

Homeschooling is an educational option that more and more parents in our area are considering but many aren’t sure where to start. Still others are currently homeschooling but looking for programs to supplement their curriculum. Wherever you fall in the homeschooling spectrum, Learning Expo 2014 will be useful.

Along with a session from guest speaker Susan Bacon of the Franklin School (a secular homeschool cover program here in North Alabama), the expo will also feature information about numerous homeschooling programs offered by area museums and businesses that can help families already homeschooling fill in gaps in curricula.

#3. If your child has ever needed educational assistance, you might need to attend Learning Expo 2014

Tutoring and other learning related services are another feature of the expo. Parents can easily browse what resources are available in the Tennessee Valley and discover what will hopefully be a great fit for their child’s needs.

#2. If you want to learn more about public school options for education, you might need to attend Learning Expo 2014

Even if you know that public school is the educational option for you and your family, you’re not limited to just your neighborhood school. Huntsville City Schools offers some wonderful magnet programs, along with a highly respected IB program, and representatives from HCS will be on hand to answer questions. Throughout the day there will be representatives at the HCS booth but at 2PM there will also be a special Q&A session with a panel of educators involved in the Magnet Programs.

Did we mention that the expo is entirely FREE and open to the public? All attendees of Learning Expo 2014 gain free entrance to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, including their amazing Da Vinci: The Genius Exhibit. So even if you are completely set in the education department, why not come out for the afternoon and stop by to say hi.

Stephenie and I, along with some of our writers, will be on hand. There’s a super cute play area for the little ones, Gabrielle’s Facepainting will be there, you can, and bigger kids will enjoy a free day at the museum.
