Huntsville is known as a smart place. Heck, it’s our official city-endorsed slogan. And for the first time – on September 26, 2013 at 5:30 pm – Teach For America will host a SMART Party at the Huntsville Museum of Art.
Are you SMART?
What is a SMART Party? It is a traditional telethon-style fundraiser, like those you see on television, with a twist. Take a traditional real-time fundraising event and add in a dash of social media – where each person uses their smart phone to interact with friends online and raise funds – and that my friend is a SMART Party.
How to Participate
There are three ways to participate:
- Buy a ticket to the event and fund raise online before and during the event. You also compete against other ticket-holders in fundraising categories for cool prizes.
- Attend the event on Thursday, September 26 at the Huntsville Museum of Art ($25 before/ $40 at the door).
- Join the party online at smartparty.org/huntsville where you can watch it all via live stream. Be sure to interact on Facebook and Twitter also using hashtag #SMARTParty.
The individual who raises the most money on behalf of Teach For America will win a prefix dinner for eight at Below the Radar Brewhouse, including four bottles of premium wine paired with the menu. The second place fundraiser will be awarded an extraordinary collection of wines from the private collection of Bill and Donna Shergy.
FUNdraising

Along with the novelty of the party you also have additional opportunities for fun. Kicking off the night is Mayor Tommy Battle as emcee. He will engage the audience in a rousing game of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader.”
Following Mayor Battle’s appearance you have the chance to see Our Valley Event’s very own Larkin Grant and Bronwen Murray take the stage and emcee. They will announce the silent auction, which takes place from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Listed below is a sampling of some of the great auction items available for bid at the event:
- Terrame Day Spa and Salon: $100 gift card
- Silhouette Boutique: Gift basket with items from their fall collection
- Wine Cellar: Wine tasting for 6 people
- Amendment XXI: Happy hour/bourbon tasting for 16 people
- Brix restaurant: $100 gift card

Every single local person that put in even 20 min. towards this event should read this article. If you say you are FOR our local educators and public schools then I know that you will, if you pass this on by then you have no right to say you support our educators. http://blogs.edweek.org/teachers/living-in-dialogue/2011/11/philip_kovacs_takes_on_tfa_in.html
