By now, you’ve heard about the new entertainment districts that will be open in Downtown Huntsville, 5-10 p.m. every Thursday and Friday, starting Thursday, June 20.  Restaurants and bars within these two districts (the Quigley District & the Meridian District) can sell drinks to go, and include the Von Braun Center, Below the Radar Brewing Company, Sammy T’s Music Hall, Lone Goose Saloon, and others.

Now, The Arts Council is giving you even more reasons to head downtown- outdoor entertainment!  Beginning Thursday and continuing for 15 weeks (through Friday, September 27) The Arts Council is bringing all kinds of acts to the Quigley Arts & Entertainment District including street performers, block parties, concerts, live art demonstrations, and more with Art².

Entertainment and Art²

Highlights of Art² programming through July 5 include:

• Thursday, June 20^th – saxophonist Reginald Jackson, the Rocket City Jugglers, street magician Dr. Osborn, ukulele singer/songwriter Wanda June, acoustic musician Scott Morgan, and the flute/guitar duo Toot & Twang on the square, and the Huntsville Drumline in Big Spring Park East.
• Friday, June 21^st – Performances by Gavin Boost and Geoff & Bryan Acoustic Duo on the square; saxophonist Alex Banks, II, followed by Live By Satellite in concert in Big Spring Park East.
• Thursday, June 27^th – ArtsAlive Block Party on the square featuring the 2013 Homegrown Talent Final Round, performances by The 911 Reporters, and the North Alabama Flute Choir, and live art demonstrations by the North Alabama Wood Crafters and Green Pea Press.
• Friday, June 28^th – Performances by Winslow Davis and Audio Radiance on the square; Bonner Black concert in Big Spring Park East.
• Thursday, July 4^th – No programming due to Independence Day.
• Friday, July 5^th – Performances by Wanda June and Chris Wade on the square; Splitting Atoms concert in Big Spring Park East.

 

Tips (no pun intended)

Live entertainment districts in Huntsville has everyone talking.  And we want to make sure that you have a great time with the buskers (the practice of performing in public places, for gratuities) and that the Arts Council offers this every year!  So, here are a few tips on how to make sure you enjoy these performances:

•  Entertainment will be spread throughout the Quigley Arts & Entertainment District (see pink area of map above).  Want to enjoy several performers?  Wear comfy shoes
• Bring some cash to tip!
• If you don’t like it, just keep walking.  No one likes a heckler.
• Tell the busker how much you have enjoyed their performance.  Let your kids dance along!  Everyone loves encouragement.
