One of my favorite events in Huntsville celebrates its 15th Anniversary this Saturday night, June 15th. Dining With Friends is the signature fundraiser for the AIDS Action Coalition (AAC). The AAC is an HIV & AIDS clinic located in Huntsville that serves as a primary care facility for more than 550 individuals, providing medical care, social services, and prevention education to those living with HIV & AIDS. The mission of the AAC is to STOP the spread of HIV & AIDS in the 12 counties of North Alabama and care for people and families living with the disease.
A Very 20’s Evening

The 15th Anniversary of Dining With Friends promises to be the best yet! Burritt on the Mountain will be decked out in a 1920’s prohibition-style theme called, “The Big Easy Speakeasy.” With exciting elements ranging from 1920’s costumes/decor to a novelty casino hosted by America’s Party Pros, it will be an evening to remember.
Cost of admission is $50 and your ticket includes:
- Unlimited desserts
- Heavy hors d’oeuvres prepared by Sugar Pusher Bakery and What’s for Supper Catering
- Unlimited champagne
- $20,000 in Party Pro Bucks to participate in novelty gambling tables (blackjack, roulette, craps, poker)
PLUS the option to bid on an incredible lineup of donated goods, artwork, services, and vacations in “The Shoppes,” AAC’s new spin on the traditional Silent Auction and Live Auction.
There will be a cash bar available featuring four specialty drinks created specifically for this event. Beer and wine will also be available in the cash bar.
The Shoppes
Being the avid shopper that I am, I am super excited about the launch of The Shoppes, a categorized shopping experience similar to the traditional silent auction, but with “Buy It Now” options on select items.
- For the Home
- Treat Yourself Or A Friend
- Weekend Fun
- The Look
- The Art Gallery
There is sure to be something for everyone!
One of the most exciting features for 2013 is The Art Gallery which will feature six acclaimed local artists who have created specially commissioned works of art featuring views from Monte Sano and Burritt on the Mountain. Artists Conor O’Brien, Maggie Little, Katrina Weber, Mary Ann Pope, Helen Vaughn, & Nancy Bradford pieces of art have been created recently as part of a very generous donation agreement with AAC and they are absolutely breathtaking.
Entertainment
And if all that wasn’t enough, the entertainment for the evening is sure to be stellar! For one night only, Ingrid Lucia and the Flying Neutrinos will be leaving their hometown of New Orleans to provide Huntsville guests with an authentic jazz experience. This sassy New Orleans native has a voice that’s prompted thousands of comparisons to Billie Holiday. But despite her stylistic similarities to Lady Day, Lucia’s delivery is upbeat, fun, and just a bit naughty…in the true Big Easy tradition.
