Getting fit can be expensive: gym memberships, workout dvds, equipment, cute workout outfits. The list becomes endless. And I find the longer the list, the lower the motivation. Healthy Huntsville has just cut this list down considerably. How you ask? With a series of free fitness events, Saturdays in the Park.
Give It a Try
Sound too good to be true? Well it’s not! Every Saturday morning in June, Healthy Huntsville will offer free fitness classes in Big Spring Park. The classes range from yoga to bootcamp to pilates. Look over the complete schedule on our events calendar.
This is a perfect opportunity to try out something new. Maybe you’ve heard about pilates, but didn’t want to commit 3 months of your life (and your paycheck) to it. Come down to Big Spring Park east by the rock fountain this Saturday and give it a whirl. If you don’t like it, what have you lost? An hour of your time? Not really, because you still got a good workout in.
Learn from Pros
Plus, these classes are not lead by just any old folks! Oh no. They are lead by area pros.

About Healthy Huntsville
The Healthy Huntsville initiative has a very specific purpose: to reduce obesity by promoting healthy eating and active lifestyles. And just how do they plan to do this? By working with local nonprofits and businesses to offer FREE programs throughout the year to educate you on health and wellness.
“We want to be the catalyst for change and to show our citizens that there is a better way,” said Mayor Battle.
“We already know that Huntsville is one of the smartest places to live in the country. If we can raise awareness about the serious health risk that obesity has on the quality and longevity of our lives and how easily those extra pounds can lead to diabetes, then we can also make Huntsville one of the fittest places.”
But the Mayor isn’t going at this alone. He’s picked some pretty formidable allies. Learn more about all the Healthy Huntsville sponsors here.
One last thing: these free events don’t just magically happen. They come from dedicated community members who volunteer their time and services. Anyone can volunteer to host an event for Healthy Huntsville. There are a few criteria, which you can read all about on the City of Huntsville’s website.

A New Healthy Habit
Bottom line: you can come up with a million reasons why you shouldn’t come to Saturdays in the Park. But why not surprise yourself and think of just one great reason you should come: your health. Isn’t that enough? Aren’t YOU worth an hour or two on Saturday? See you in the park Saturday!
