Educators Speak
The State of the Schools presented by Redstone Federal Credit Union is your opportunity to hear the superintendents of our three local school systems — Dr. Fowler, Madison City Schools; Dr. Copeland, Madison County Schools; and Dr. Wardynski, Huntsville City Schools — report on the accomplishments and opportunities in their districts. Also speaking will be Mary Scott Hunter, State Board of Education representative for District 8, which covers Huntsville/Madison County. She will talk about the State’s PLAN 2020 and how it set the course for student achievement.
The State’s 2020 PLAN objectives include:
- All students perform at or above proficiency and show continuous improvement
- All students succeed
- Every student graduates from high school
- Every student graduates high school prepared
About The Schools Foundation
The Schools Foundation has worked to support public schools in Huntsville, Madison City and Madison County as a unified effort since 2000. Recently, the Foundation has focused on A+ College Ready and Principally Speaking Network.
The A+College Ready Program is part of a national initiative to expand the number of students in AP math, science, and English classes. AP course selection, enrollment, and qualifying scores are up across the districts. In fact since starting the program in 2009 qualifying scores on AP exams at the participating schools have increased 140% percent.
Principally Speaking Network (PSN) is a program for all K-12 administrators focusing on improving leadership skills and increasing teacher effectiveness. The 2013 event will be held on January 17 at Dynetics lead by Dr. Tommy Bice, Alabama State Superintendent of Education. The day will feature Lessons in Education Leadership with Dr. Neil Lamb, Hudson Alpha, Dr. Bob Berinato, Dynetics, Inc., and Leslie Ecklund, Burritt on the Mountain.
