One of my favorite local attractions is the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. And they have kicked it into high gear this holiday season! They’ve got all kinds of fun just waiting for you (or the kids in your life). To make sure you don’t miss any of it, I’ve collected their events this month and put them in one place! Santa’s Rocket Workshop

Dates: Nightly starting at 5:30pm

About: As guests enter the Galaxy of Lights, we are inviting them to stop at Santa’s Rocket Workshop where Santa’s Propulsion Crew is adding rocket engines to his sleigh. Visitors will get pictures with Santa and see live reindeer, enjoy the lighted aircraft at Aviation Challenge and take a ride on our Rocket Tram!

Orbiting Ornaments Workshop

Date: Saturday, December 15th

Time: 10:30am – 12pm

Best for: Ages: 6 – 12

About: Orbiting Ornaments Workshop: Come and enjoy a fun and informative hands on workshop all about our Solar System. Create your own planet inspired Holiday ornament to take home.

Parent’s shopping day out

Date: Saturday, December 15th

Time: 11am – 3pm

Reservations:  Call (256) 721-7114 or visit the USSRC Ticket Desk. Advance reservations are required and must be made by 2 p.m. on Friday prior to each event.

Cost: Admission is $25 for the first child and $20 for each additional child in the same family (U.S. Space & Rocket Center members receive a 10% discount.)

About: This afternoon adventure is designed for children ages 6-12 and is full of age-appropriate, space-related activities, lunch and the acclaimed MathAlive! exhibit, brought to the USSRC through a partnership with the Alabama Department of Education. [spacer size=”0″]

Saturday Scientist

Date: Saturday, December 22nd

Time: 10 – 11:30am

About: This fun and informative hands on workshop will talk about the history of space food, starting when the first American astronaut ate in space through the food they eat on the ISS today. Not only have food choices changed but so have the types of food they eat.

You will learn all about the food the astronauts ate and how it is prepared. Of course you will get to sample some space food and even take some space food home with you.

Winter Break Space Camp

Dates and Times: Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 9:00am through Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at 5:00pm

About: Book your child’s winter camp adventure at Space Camp. Ttrainees ages 9-18 from all over the world attend for a week long adventure training to be astronauts. Programs include:

• Space Camp (ages 9-11)
• Space Academy (ages 12-14)
• Advanced Space Academy (age 15-18)
