Do you remember the first concert you ever went to? Mine was Rush 2112. I went with my step brother and some of his friends (who are now pilots, engineers and bio-wizards; I was watching Big Bang Theory last night, and it sort of reminded me of that time in my life).
…Anyway, back to the point. I remember the concert was really spectacular – a lot of lasers going on as I recall… and the music! I love live music. And that brings me to this Saturday night at the Flying Monkey, when 5ive O’Clock Charlie and Gus Hergert and his band will be performing.
It’s 5ive O’Clock Somewhere…
As long as I can remember, I have heard that 5ive O’Clock Charlie is playing somewhere here in Huntsville. (5ive O’Clock Somewhere…get it?)
Here is my disclaimer: I am not a professional critic, so I’m not going to pretend to know more than I actually do. But I do know this: I love classic rock; I love guitar music, and I’ve been to a few concerts- back when classic rock wasn’t old enough to be called classic… it was just… rock.

Not only are they awesome musicians with fantastic vocals (I’ve heard both Mike Roberts and Chad Reeves sing and they are really talented), but they are also comfortable performing, laid back, and obviously having a good time. And that makes for a really fun evening. They just finished a new album (ha! I know, CD… but it just sounds normal for me to say ALBUM) which was recorded at the world famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studio! Hopefully, they’ll have some at the Flying Monkey to buy. (Support local artists!!!) These guys do amazing covers but they have a ton of their own music, too. AND it’s an all ages show.
Gus Hergert and his band will also be on stage. You may have caught their act at Bandito Southside or the Sports Page. From Gus you can expect to hear rock, pop, blues, and maybe even some country music. My fellow Our Valley Events blogger, Amy Pope, caught up with Gus a while back and you can click here to read what she had to say about Gus and his music.
