9 Tips for Navigating Big Spring Crush Like a Pro

We can’t wait for Homegrown Huntsville’s First Annual Big Spring Crush on September 27, 2014. We even have a corporate tent for the new downtown event!

But if you aren’t quite sure what to expect, here’s our 9 Tips for Helping You Navigate Big Spring Crush Like a Pro!

What to wear

1. Ladies, wear sandals, flats or wedges- you’ll be outside in grass… and drinking. Heals and alcohol don’t mix.

2. Also ladies, dresses are best for navigating available bathrooms quickly and easily.

3. And prints work best. Don’t like florals or geometrics? Choose dark colors like purple, black, navy, etc to mask the inevitable red wine spill. Definitely don’t wear white no matter how hot it is outside- you’re courting disaster!

4. Gentlemen, jeans are hot- and we don’t mean hot in a good way. Choose khaki pants so you aren’t wilted by the end of the day. Please?

5. Smell is extremely important for wine tasting so don’t mess with other tasters’ ability to smell. No smoking (anything!) and don’t use anything with scent (perfume, cologne, mouthwash, gum). Odors can (& will) interfere with others’ ability to smell their wine and will make you unpopular with those who want the full experience.

6. Wait to share your opinions about a wine until others have had a chance to taste the wine. Serious tasters want to form their own opinions.

7. Love something? Snap a photo of the label(s) with your phone so that you know which to look for later! (as well as which to avoid)

The Wine Tasting…

8. Spit- Most experienced wine tasters do. Eventually, spitting will seem to be the normal thing to do at wine events.

9. If you can’t bring yourself to spit, EAT FIRST. You absorb alcohol more slowly on a full stomach — a few crackers or a little bread will not suffice. Enjoy some of the great treats that will be on hand including The Eaves, Mezza Luna, Crave Heat, and more!
