This year, instead of vague and lofty resolutions, why not eat your way through 2016 by taking on a foodie challenge?

Below are 12 challenges, one for each month.
Complete them all and you’ll have an expanded knowledge of local food options and happy tastebuds. Which sounds like a solid year to me.
2016 Huntsville Foodie Challenge
1. Attend at least one local food festival. Beer. BBQ. Cheese. We’ve got options here.
2. Try 3 food trucks.
3. Celebrate Pi Day on 3/14 with pie from a local bakery.
4. Sample 10 new to you dishes from our list of 100 things to eat.
5. Take a cooking class and learn to make a new dish.
6. Buy produce at a local farmer’s market.
7. Take a food tour.
8. Try 5 new to you restaurants. Not sure where to start? Let Huntsville Eats help you find something tasty.
9. Try one of our local dives.
10. Eat something you’ve never had before. If you usually stick to meat and potatoes, branch out to Greek, Indian, Vietnamese, or Thai. If you are a more adventurous sort, try tongue, alligator, or kimchi.
11. Order a flight at a local brewery.
12. Birthday? Anniversary? Holiday? Give the gift of local food. Chocolates. Tea. Delivery. Or a gift certificate to a favorite local restaurant.

I am new to the Huntsville area, and do not know where the local farmers markets are located. I prefer to eat local grown produce. Can you help me?
Hi Judy,
Welcome to Huntsville! We have a pretty comprehensive list found here: https://wearehuntsville.com/huntsville-harvest-guide/
Our Harvest Guide was current through the 2015 season and will be updated this spring, but it’s a great starting point for a Huntsville newbie. You’ll be able to eat fresh and local for most of the year. Thank you!
I’m new to Huntsville (& Alabama) also. I need to replace number 11 with something since I don’t drink alcohol, cold tea, or coffee. Are there any other interesting drink type places around? Or something particularly Southern? If I haven’t ruled everything out by my pickiness.
We have a local juice bar, which specializes in fresh juice and might be a good fit. You can find their site here.
I don’t know if chocolate works for you or not, but if so check out the drinking chocolate at Pizzelle’s (during the summer they offer drinking chocolate floats!).
Finally, if noncaffeinated sodas are okay, check out the Pure Sodaworks bottled sodas. They are made in Tennessee and you can find them at The Artery. They come in all sorts of delicious flavors (apple pie!), way more interesting than standard colas.
Thanks I’ll try those.
