WhistleStop BBQ Festival Returns to MidCity with BBQ, Local Music & Tastings
Get ready for the smell of barbecue to take over MidCity! The WhistleStop BBQ Festival returns to Huntsville on Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17, 2026, bringing two days of competitive barbecue, free tastings, live music, local vendors and family-friendly fun.
A North Alabama tradition dating back to 2001, WhistleStop is returning to the MidCity District for its fourth year. The festival will take place on the festival lot along Old Monrovia Road on the southeast side of MidCity.
Gates open at 4 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.
BBQ Competition + People’s Choice Tastings
At the heart of WhistleStop is an amateur barbecue competition sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. More than 40 teams from across the Southeast are expected to fire up their smokers and compete for a $2,000 Grand Champion prize.
Teams will compete in ribs, chicken and dessert, with registration for the dessert competition open to the public.
One important thing to know before you go: general admission does not include unlimited barbecue samples throughout the festival. However, attendees will have a chance to taste barbecue from the competing teams during two complimentary People’s Choice competitions.
On Friday beginning at 6 p.m., festival goers can sample chicken wings before voting for their favorite. Then on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m., it’s all about pulled pork.
People’s Choice tastings are included with festival admission and available only during the designated tasting times while supplies last. After sampling, guests can cast their votes using QR codes located throughout the festival.
WhistleStop 2026 Music Lineup
There’s plenty happening beyond the smokers. Local and regional musicians will take the WhistleStop stage throughout both days of the festival.

Saturday, October 17
- 11:30 a.m. – The Grasstronauts
- 1 p.m. – Josh Allison
- 2:30 p.m. – Lana White & the Heights
- 4:30 p.m. – Buck’d Up
Young festival goers can also head to the Pigpen, a dedicated area with activities and fun throughout the weekend.

WhistleStop BBQ Festival Tickets
Advance tickets are $10 for a single day or $20 for a weekend pass, with prices increasing at the gate. Children ages 12 and younger get in free.
Volunteers are also needed for this year’s festival. Those who sign up to volunteer will receive free festival admission and a free T-shirt while supplies last.
