Are you looking for an epic way to end summer in Huntsville?
Head on down to Ditto Landing for one of the best events they offer, Slide out of Summer. As a South Huntsville resident, my family and I have enjoyed sliding in and out of Summer at Ditto since it began. But I’ve noticed not many people outside of the immediate area are aware of the events.
Here’s your chance to be in the know!
Ditto Landing Marina
In case you’ve never been, let’s start with a bit of information on the Marina. Ditto Landing is Huntsville’s premier water recreation and camping location. Beautiful and peaceful mountain views surround it, and watching the sunset on the Tennessee river is pure magic. On any given day, you can watch various boats pass by, see wildlife in the form of ducks and geese or find a secluded spot to fish and relax with friends and family.
It’s also a great place to go camping. Whether you have or rent an RV, tent camp, or my favorite, glamp, they can all be done right on the grounds of Ditto landing.
How to slide out of summer
So what exactly is “Slide out of Summer”? It’s is the ultimate backyard slip n slide party perfect for almost all ages. The staff of ditto landing set out three giant tarps, load them with bubbles to ensure you can slip and turn on the water for a weekend of fun. With food trucks, volleyball, water balloons, and water toys, it’ll be the best $5 you spend all summer.
As an expert summer slider, here are a few tips to make the day even better for your family.
*Arrive early: the later it gets, the muddier things become. That can be fun for kids too
*Bring a shade tent: again, it’s still really hot here, and having a designated place to escape the sun comes in handy
*Pack a blanket and lawn chairs if you don’t enjoy sitting in the grass
*Bring a cooler with cold drinks
*Bring your water shooters and lawn toys: this way, you don’t have to worry about there being enough for your family to use
*Don’t forget towels and extra clothes for changing
*Remember to pack sunscreen and bug spray
Other things to check out
While you’re visiting, consider getting out on the water with Row Huntsville. You can rent canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards without leaving the Marina. It’s a great way to extend time on the river and continue taking in the area’s beauty. If you want a slight change of scenery, head west on Hobb’s Island road and rent SUP’s from Forrest Paddle Boarding. This family ran business will leave you feeling like a SUP expert and excited for more!
