Richard Showers Center Splashpad
We have some great splash pads located throughout the city, but The Richard Showers Center Splashpad, affectionately known as “The Bulldog Splash Pad,” is a family favorite. We love it because of the waterslide, large pavilion, and shaded sitting areas found around the park.

Forrest Paddle Boarding
If you’re feeling adventurous, make your way to South Huntsville, where you’ll find this sweet paddle board rental company and expert guide, Forrest. Be sure to inquire about his new, family-sized board. It’s an excellent way for kids not ready for independent paddling to enjoy time on the river.

Heart of the Valley YMCA
Two of our local YMCA branches offer indoor pools and splash pads free to members. In addition to an indoor pool and splash area, the Hogan YMCA also has a fantastic outdoor zero-entry pool with two water slides and a splash zone perfect for little swimmers. Membership is required to use YMCA facilities and joining at one branch grants entry to the others.

Creek Stomping
Creek stomping and skipping stones are some of our favorite and most cost-effective ways to stay cool during summer, and we’re lucky to have so many places to choose from! While not a complete list, these are some we recommend adding to your summer adventures;
Aldridge Creek: Located in South Huntsville near Bailey Cove Road, .5 mile south of Weatherly Road to Ditto Landing.
Indian Creek: Located in West Huntsville, from Old Madison Pike to Creekwood Park (Southern trail), from U.S. Hwy. 72 to Providence School (Northern trail).

Marble Slab
This family-owned ice creamery will be sure to cool you down while filling you up with Joy. Located in bridge street shopping center and made unique by offering unlimited free toppings, Marble Slab is the place for families that love coming up with new ice cream creations. Don’t forget to pack your water clothes and hit up the pop jets while you’re there!

The Yard Milkshake Bar
These aren’t just milkshakes; they’re whimsical, shareable, and loaded with toppings such as cheesecake slices, cupcakes, marshmallows, and more. These crave-able Instagram-worthy shakes will have your family begging you for a trip to the yard.

Huntsville Botanical Gardens
Huntsville Botanical Gardens is an outdoor oasis and a great place to explore and find relief from the summer’s heat. While most of your visit will be spent outdoors, the butterfly house provides a chance to escape the sun and visit butterflies, turtles, and more. The children’s garden and gem mining area offer opportunities for water play, or you can take advantage of the tree canopy in one of the many hammocks provided for guests to relax.
