Downtown Huntsville is set to gain additional public parking as the City of Huntsville moves forward with plans for a new surface parking lot near the Von Braun Center.
City leaders recently approved a contract with Grayson Carter & Son Contracting to construct the lot at the southwest corner of Monroe Street and Holmes Avenue. The site is located within the footprint of the Front Row mixed-use development currently under construction.
The project stems from a 2023 development agreement between the City and Front Row developers that allows Huntsville to ground lease a portion of the property for public parking. Once completed, the lot will be owned and operated by the City.
The additional parking is intended to help meet growing demand in downtown Huntsville as new developments, attractions, and public spaces continue to draw more visitors to the area. The location will serve nearby destinations including the Von Braun Center, Big Spring Park, and the future Pedestrian Access & Redevelopment Corridor (PARC) project.
The new lot will also help replace parking spaces that will be temporarily unavailable when Lot K on Clinton Avenue is used as a staging area for upcoming PARC construction work. That project will focus on improvements and enhancements to Pinhook Creek.
