Mosey Up to the Music City with Your Pup
I don’t know about you, but warmer weather makes me think of taking road trips: grabbing a Diet Coke and some Cheddar and Sour Cream Chips and heading out of town for the day.
For many of us a road trip also involves our four-legged friends. Nashville is such a dog friendly city and makes a PAWfect day trip destination with plenty of fun for you and Fido.
One of our favorite things about Nashville are all the murals. If you google Nashville Tennessee murals you are going to get tons of results that include lists and interactive maps. The “Wings” mural in The Gulch is one of the most popular so if you plan to hit it up, go early in the morning. There are also two huge ones across the street and cool shopping in the area where your pups are welcome. Keep in mind there are so many murals all over town. We try to make a list of the ones we want to see on each trip with a general plan of order and neighborhoods.
Nashville is full of places to shop. Some of our faves are Shop of Things, Parnassus Books, Novelette, Desert and Vine Botanical Supply, Gift Horse, Baxter Bailey & Company, Finnley’s and Serendipity. Serendipity is on 12th Avenue South, and you can stroll up and down the street with your pup and see tons of shops and restaurants (and other pups.) This area also has tons of murals.
Novelette and Desert and Vine Botanical Supply are both on the first floor of an old school in East Nashville. Baxter Bailey & Company and Gift Horse are both on Fatherland Street. Baxter & Bailey Company is the best pet store and has tons of parties for pets. We went for Harry Pawter’s Birthday and Hector had a blast.
Another favorite place to stop is Centennial Park which features a replica of the Parthenon as its centerpiece. Furry friends can’t go inside but Centennial Park is great for a stroll or a picnic and hosts a wealth of events that are dog friendly. Tennessee Craft is an amazing art festival held in the fall and spring-the next iteration is coming up the first weekend in May. Musicians Corner is a popular summer series with live music, artisan vendors, food trucks and activities for kids.
Cheekwood is one of our favorite places to visit. While not always permitted, Cheekwood does go to the dogs for fun several times of year. The Halloween costume contest is a blast, people go all out, and they have dog friendly events throughout the year. Dogs and Dogwoods is the next one, coming up April 20th and 21st. I do suggest pre-purchasing tickets for any of their dog events as they are popular.
One of our favorite places to eat is Waldo’s Chicken and Beer. Not only is the chicken delicious but those biscuits are amazing and worth the trip by themselves. Seriously, act like your grandma and wrap them in a napkin and put them in your purse. Tennessee Brew Works is another great option for food and a local brew. For dessert, pop by a Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams-yum.
