A major change is coming to Huntsville’s healthcare landscape as Huntsville Hospital Health System (HH Health) has announced plans to acquire substantially all assets of Crestwood Medical Center and its affiliated outpatient centers and medical practices.
HH Health and a subsidiary of Community Health Systems, Inc. (CHS) have entered into a definitive agreement for the transaction, which is expected to close early in the second quarter of 2026, pending customary closing requirements.
According to HH Health leadership, the acquisition is intended to strengthen healthcare coordination across the region and support the growing needs of the Huntsville community. Huntsville has experienced significant growth in recent years, with the area’s population increasing by nearly 16% over the past five years.
The acquisition includes Crestwood Medical Center, Crestwood’s freestanding emergency department in Harvest, outpatient services and clinics, and certain ambulatory interests.
Both organizations emphasized that patient care and services will continue as normal throughout the transition process. There are no immediate changes planned for medical staff privileges, hospital operations, or patient services while the acquisition moves toward completion.
Leaders from both HH Health and Crestwood Medical Center expressed optimism about the opportunity to enhance healthcare resources and expand locally coordinated care for patients throughout the region.
If completed as planned, the acquisition would bring two of Huntsville’s most significant healthcare providers under the HH Health System umbrella, further expanding its presence across North Alabama.
