What is the Downtown Open
Presented by Downtown Huntsville, Inc., the Downtown Open is a 20 hole miniature golf course that will be on the sidewalks of downtown Huntsville, AL today through June 22, 2014.
Each hole was customized by a local business sponsor, resulting in a unique, one-of-a-kind mini golf course.
What You Need to Know
The Downtown Open is “open” for 10 days, June 13 – 22, 2014 and is free to play. The public may play anytime and start at any hole. EDITOR’S NOTE: The Downtown Open has been extended through June 29.
For those wishing to “play through” in order, there is a course map available to follow.
You are encouraged to BYOP (bring your own putter), however there will be some putters available to borrow from Harrison Brothers Hardware and Sam & Greg’s Pizzeria during each of their business hours. The putters at Sam & Greg’s are on loan from Southern Adventures and come in a variety of sizes.
There will also be course maps and score cards located at Harrison Brothers and Sam & Greg’s Pizzeria.
Kick-Off Tonight
To kick-off the Downtown Open, join 97.7 The Zone ESPN tonight from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on the Southside Square (near Commerce Kitchen).
The guys will have a special guest – PGA Tour Pro Spike McRoy.
Come out and meet Spike and maybe even get to play a few holes against him.
Jr Putting Tournament
Saturday, June 14 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm, play in the Richland Golf Center Jr Putting Tournament. This tournament is for ages 6 – 16, entry table on the Northside Square.
There will be two tournaments to choose from – a full 20 hole course tournament and a shorter “Play the Square” tournament.
Each tournament will have prizes for the top scores, including the first ever Downtown Open trophies for 1st and 2nd place in each tournament. These awesome trophies were donated by Wholesale Trophies!
What You Need to Do
Come out and play! Please. It’s a unique and fun way to enjoy downtown and it slows you down to take in the sights and sounds a little more.
This is one of several unique events taking place in downtown Huntsville. If you can, come out and support this event so we can have more like it.
Also, for the sake of housekeeping, make sure not to hit the golf balls too hard, return the borrowed putters and leave balls in the cups at each hole. Together we can make sure the Downtown Open is as beautiful and fun to play through and enjoy all 10 days that it’s out!
