Fireworks on the 4th
Times vary slightly, but the fireworks will take place at dusk/dark, since you can’t have fireworks when it’s light outside.

If you just can’t wait until July 4th to start celebrating, then you’re not alone! Here are some events that will let you start your celebrating early.[spacer size=”0″]
Independence Day Celebration in Fort Payne
Date: July 3rd
Time: 6pm
Location: Fort Payne High School football stadium
Cost: FREE
Details: The City of Fort Payne invites you to a wonderful celebration with free hot dogs, soft drinks, American flags, live entertainment, and a fantastic fireworks display. Event takes place at the Fort Payne High School football stadium and begins at dusk.
Spirit of America Festival
Event: Miss Point Mallard Pagents
Date: July 2nd-July 4th
Time: Varies. Click here for complete schedule.
Location: Point Mallard Park
Details: The Miss Point Mallard Pageant is franchised by the Miss America Organization. Contestants are judged on talent, physical fitness in a swimsuit, evening gown and onstage questions.
A private interview with a panel of five judges before onstage competition tests their knowledge of and opinions on various issues. Come enjoy the pageants and see who will be the next Miss Point Mallard!
4th of July Events: Daytime
30th annual Sand Mountain Potato Festival
Date: July 4th
Time: 10am
Cost: Admission is free, parking $2 per vehicle
Location: Henagar Park located on Alabama Highway 75
Details: The 30th annual Sand Mountain Potato Festival offers a car and motorcycle show, pony rides, arts and crafts fair, parade, horseshoe tournament, live entertainment, and children’s games and inflatables along with a variety of potato entrees and side dishes. The free event begins with a parade at 10 a.m. and culminates with a spectacular fireworks display.
Fishin’ on the 4th
Time: 11 am – 1 pm
Location: Bridge Street Town Center
Cost: FREE
Details: This free kids fishing rodeo takes place on the west side of Bridge Street’s Lake. Prizes provided by Bridge Street merchants will be awarded for the longest three fish in three different age categories ranging from toddlers to age fifteen. Following the kids fishing rodeo, adults are invited to fish the lake until 3 pm.
Things to Know:
- Participants should bring their own fishing equipment and check in at the tent on the west side of the lake.
- Live bait will be available for purchase or participants may bring their own.
- Only live bait is to be used.
- Participants may keep their fish, or they may be placed in a live tank provided by Aqua Services for eventual relocation.
Wacky Wednesday
Time: 12 – 1pm
Location: Huntsville Botanical Garden
Details: Start July 4th with a Patriotic activity for your little ones at the Children’s Garden. These activities are designed to engage children between the ages of four and ten.
Afternoon & Evening Events
Red, White and Fun
Time: 1-4pm (museum hours 9am-6pm)
Location: Sci-Quest
Cost: Included with general admission. All military families – active and retired – will receive free admission all day
Details: The stars and stripes will be in full effect as we celebrate our country’s 236th birthday with Red, White and Fun at Sci-Quest on Wednesday, July 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. Before rockets glare and fireworks are in the air, declare your right to have some science fun with red, white and blue experiments and hands-on activities.
This 4th of July, learn why fireworks are different colors and make an explosive fireworks hat. See an eruption of patriotic foam in red, white and blue. Plus everyone who wears red, white and blue gets a free Popsicle while supplies last.
4th of July Celebration & Fireworks Display
Time: 2 – 10pm
Location: Dublin Park
Cost: Free
Details: Celebration will kick off with inflatable activities lined up all around Soccer Field #1. Children and Adults of all ages can enjoy sliding down the Giant Sabretooth Tiger Slide or try to find their way through the 70 ft Obstacle Course.
When you get to hot….take a splash down the the 62 ft Water Slide or sit underneath the giant Tent in the shade and listen to the great music. Avoid the traffic and use the Shuttle Services provided by the City of Madison. Park at BJHS and you will be shuttled to and from the event.
Activities Include:
- Inflatable Activities will be set up from 2pm – 7pm
- Shuttle Services 2pm – Until
- Entertainment will be from 3pm -7pm
- Various Vendors will be on hand serving up great food from 2pm – until
- Fireworks display scheduled to start at dark
- Enjoy activities for the whole family throughout the afternoon, ending with fireworks
4th of July on the Tennessee River
Time: 6 – 11pm
Location: Goose Pond Colony
Cost: Free
Details: Cool off by celebrating the 4th on the river at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro, AL.
This 4th celebration will include:
- Music featuring 6 acts from local to Nashville
- Huge Boat Parade
- Food
- And the BIG Fireworks Show
4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza
Time: 6-10pm
Location: US Space and Rocket Center
Cost: $20 fee per vehicle (passenger vehicles only; buses and extended vehicles are not allowed) and a parking pass will be provided. Purchase here.
Details: Visit the U.S. Space & Rocket Center for Huntsville’s largest fireworks display and July 4th celebration! Bring the whole family and enjoy delicious food, patriotic entertainment and breathtaking fireworks – the largest show in town! Get your picture taken with Lady Liberty, build your own rocket and even experience Space Shot! Also meet TOPPS and RamJet from the USSRC and enjoy free giveaways from Fox 54! Activities begin at 6 p.m with the fireworks show starting at 9 p.m.
Activities include:
- A kid’s zone with activities such as building paper rockets, a moon bounce and Lady Liberty Live shows
- Rocket Park activities (G-Force, Space Shot and Kids Cosmos) will be open at no additional charge.
- TOPPS and RamJet, the mascots at the USSRC, will be on-site for photos with the guests
- The 274th Army Material Command Band will provide entertainment from 6-9 p.m.
- Fox54 will be on-site with giveaways also.
Food and beverages will be available to purchase including: hamburgers hot dogs, chips, cotton candy, shaved ice, watermelon, popcorn, beer, soda and water. Outside food or drink is not allowed.
Celebrate with the Huntsville Stars
Date: July 4th
Time: Gates open at 5:30pm
Location: Joe Davis Stadium
Cost: $8 ($5 with discount)
Details: Probably one of, if not the most American ways to spend your 4th of July is take in a baseball game. After all it is the great American past time. And you’re in luck because Huntsville’s team, the Stars have a game with a terrific fireworks show at the end.
This special 4th of July game (against Chattanooga Lookouts) also includes:
- Kids run the bases post-game
- Bingo for first 500 fans
- Fireworks
- And let’s not forget lots and lots of fun!
Spirit of America Festival

Event: Boy Scout Celebration
Time: 4-7pm
Location: Point Mallard Park, Spirit Field
Cost: FREE
Details: A highlight of the Spirit of America Festival will be the return of a Boy Scout Celebration Area provided by members of the Arrowhead District of the Boy Scouts. This area will engage festival participants in a variety of hands-on activities and experiences to introduce them to diverse opportunities available through scouting.

Location: TC Almon Recreation Center
Cost: Free
Details: Decorate your bikes, tricycles, wagons, strollers, wheelchairs and power wheels and join in a 4th of July tradition during the Spirit of America Children’s Bike Parade.
Event: 2012 Spirit of America Fireworks
Time: 10pm
Location: Point Mallard Park
Cost: FREE
Details: The fireworks display begins at 10:00 and is accompanied by a musical soundtrack. You can listen to a live simulcast on of the soundtrack on Clear Channel Communications stations, WDRM and 100.3 the River.
Fireworks Over Lake Guntersville
Time: 9pm
Location: Lake Guntersville
Details: A stunning over-the-lake fireworks display is the biggest in North Alabama. Head out on the water (or Civitan Park) to enjoy this amazing display.
