The City of Huntsville has officially honored local blues musician and arts advocate “Microwave” Dave Gallaher by renaming both a downtown street and a popular dog park in his recognition.
City Council recently approved two resolutions establishing Microwave Dave Way and the Microwave Dave Dog Spot, celebrating Gallaher’s decades-long contributions to Huntsville’s music and arts community.
As part of the tribute, the section of Cleveland Avenue between Meridian Street and Church Street now carries the name Microwave Dave Way. In addition, the City’s Downtown Dog Spot has been formally renamed the Microwave Dave Dog Spot.
Gallaher is widely known throughout North Alabama for his work as a blues musician, educator, and champion of the arts. His influence extends beyond the stage through years of supporting local musicians and helping strengthen Huntsville’s cultural landscape.
The renaming reflects the City’s recognition of Gallaher’s impact on the community and his role in shaping Huntsville’s creative identity.
New signage has already been installed at both locations commemorating the honor.
