We recently ventured downtown to one of Huntsville’s hottest restaurants, Rhythm on Monroe, to enjoy Sunday Brunch for my husband’s birthday. After doing some research and learning the spot typically pulls in a large brunch crowd, I decided to make reservations to ensure we’d get a table at our desired time. Located within The Von Braun Center, its prime location is perfect for those wishing to dine and spend a day out exploring the city center.
When we arrived, we parked in the lot near the North entrance of the VBC located on Clinton Ave. It was a nice windy walk to the door that allowed us to enter right by the beautifully displayed mars music hall mural. After stopping for a few pictures (who doesn’t love a photo opp with wings), we made our way to the hostess area. There was a small line already formed, but because we had reservations, we were seated immediately. I noticed the big, comfy booths behind us as we walked to our table and asked if we could have one. The hostees informed us that they were reserved and suggested we request one at the time of reservation for future visits. As a family with young kids, we prefer the isolation of booths. If you feel the same way, be sure to specify seating when creating your reservation.
Once seated, we took a few minutes to review the menus. We started with the crispy fried brussels sprouts and Cinn-Ful Rock n’ Roll. Both were phenomenal! The sprouts had just the right amount of crispiness and came with a delicious coriander dipping sauce. The cinnamon roll was huge, it was so big I doubted that it would be any good, but it was delicious! Both my husband and I were surprised at how well they maintained the flavor profile in this dish.
My husband ordered the Shrimp and grits for his main dish; I had the Eggs Bennie & The Jets with grilled Shrimp, and my oldest son went with The Platter with bacon. We chose the fried Shrimp and grilled cheese with fries from the kid’s menu for the younger boys. This ended up being a lot of food for our family, especially after the appetizers. Still, it gave us an excellent opportunity to sample more from the menu. We also had plenty of leftovers which is a win, because who wants to cook on the weekends anyway?!
The food was hot, fresh and arrived in good time. Hands down, our favorites of the day were the appetizers, grits, biscuits, and blistered tomatoes served with the platter and bennies. The kid’s meals were a hit; both boys ate all their food. Any restaurant that can get my kids to eat is alright with me!
Next time you’re planning to head out for brunch, make sure you reserve a spot at Rhythm on Monroe. They’ll be glad to see you, and you’ll be happy you went.
