From library-hosted gatherings and independent bookstore clubs to casual Facebook groups and even a local book podcast, here are a few places to find your next reading community.
Huntsville-Madison County Public Library Book Clubs
One of the easiest places to start your search is the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.
HMCPL hosts book clubs throughout its library system covering a wide range of genres, interests and age groups. Rather than listing them all here, the library maintains a directory where you can browse current options and find a group that fits what you like to read.

The Drinking Club with a Reading Problem
The Drinking Club with a Reading Problem is a Huntsville-area group built around having fun and sharing a love of books.
The group hosts a book club event each month with no genre off-limits. Members suggest books and vote on upcoming selections, but finishing the book isn’t a requirement to attend. You can still show up, hang out and talk about what you’ve been reading.
Monthly meetings are generally held on Saturdays, and the group also plans occasional dinners, parties and other get-togethers. Despite the name, drinking is absolutely not required, and everyone is welcome.
Books & Banter HSV

Books & Banter HSV is designed for readers who want the social side of a book club without feeling like they’ve been assigned homework. The focus is on minimizing the pressure and maximizing the fun part: getting together and talking about books.
Spicy Book Club Huntsville
If your bookshelves lean toward romance with a little extra heat, Spicy Book Club Huntsville might be your group.
The club welcomes readers across all spice levels who live in the Huntsville and Madison County area. In-person meetings are held monthly, giving members a chance to talk books and meet other local readers.
Book Club Is My Alibi
Thriller readers, this one’s for you.
Book Club Is My Alibi brings together readers who love suspense, mysteries, crime novels, psychological thrillers and unexpected plot twists.
The group features monthly book selections along with discussions where members can compare theories, dissect endings and talk about the stories that kept them turning pages.
SG HSV Book Club
Looking for new books and new friends? SG HSV Book Club grew out of The Social Gals of Huntsville community and offers members two opportunities to meet each month.
The group meets on the third Saturday of the month at Innerspace Brewing and the fourth Wednesday at Stovehouse. Both meetings cover the same book and discussion questions, so members can simply choose the date that works best for them.
New members must answer the Facebook group’s membership questions before being approved.
Midnight Readers Book Club
For everyone who has ever said “just one more chapter” and suddenly realized it’s 2 a.m., there’s Midnight Readers Book Club.
The group welcomes fans of dark romance, fantasy, thrillers, contemporary fiction and the occasional heartbreaking tearjerker. Members meet once a month at Shenanigans to discuss their latest selection, make new friends and connect with other readers.
There’s no pressure and no reading-speed requirement, just books, conversation and fellow readers who understand getting completely lost in a good story.
HSV Book Club
Started in 2023, HSV Book Club is a small, casual group that meets once a month and reads across genres.
The group welcomes new members and offers another option for anyone hoping to turn their reading habit into a chance to meet new people around Huntsville.
The Snail on the Wall Book Club
Local independent bookseller The Snail on the Wall doesn’t just help you find your next read. You can join them to talk about it, too.
