‘Tis the season of magic, cheer, and family traditions! If you love the look and smell of real Christmas trees, skip the box store purchase and head to one of the few Christmas Tree Farms operating in the area this year, Back to Christmas Tree Farm.

Back to Christmas Tree Farm is a family-owned and operated farm located in Madison, Alabama. The farm itself is over 100 years, but the Christmas Tree business is relatively new. Back to Christmas Tree Farm has been trees for three years now, and we were surprised to learn it began as a new venture for the kids in the family. At the ages of 8 and 16, the young men planted their very first trees! Today, when not in school, they can be seen running the tree farm and spreading holiday blessings to everyone that visits.

When we arrived at the farm, we were met by the friendly teens who were helping load a tree onto the car of other visitors. As we rounded the parking lot, we came face to face to who would become a highlight of our visit, two young, affectionate goats! The farm is a working farm so expect to see these sweeties roaming free. If you’re lucky and visit during non-peak times, you may get to pet and feed the goats with food provided by the owners!

Continuing on, we made our way to the office area to collect saws and discuss the types of trees and where we could find them on the farm. The trees consist of Murray Cypress, Carlina Sapphires, and what many consider to be the perfect holiday tree, Fraser Fir. You’re free to cut whichever tree feels right for your family, or you can select from some of their pre-cut trees.
Cutting is pretty straightforward, and the farm provides instruction to help guide you along if needed. The farm also includes plenty of space for kids to run around, watch out for holes, and a beautiful background to capture family pictures for holiday cards.

Although not present during our visit, the farm has plans to offer handmade wreaths very soon. With the time and effort it takes preparing for the season, they couldn’t have any ready before opening day. I’m sure they’ll be well worth the wait once available!
Don’t forget to stop by the office before leaving the farm. There’s a cozy set up with hot chocolate, hot apple cider, cookies, and a mailbox to send all those Christmas lists to Santa in the north pole.

Due to weather patterns over the last few years, Back to Christmas Tree Farm hasn’t produced the abundance of trees they’d planned to present. But don’t let that stop you from visiting because it hasn’t stopped them from opening their farm to the community in hopes of being a part of the magic that happens during the holidays!
