We’ve got the scoop on this Huntsville dessert parlor with tons of tasty treats. “Big Spoon Creamery” has been very successful in their other two Alabama locations (Birmingham and Homewood), making Huntsville the perfect landing spot for their third shop.

Big Spoon Creamery was founded by culinary experts, Geri-Martha and Ryan O’hara, a husband and wife duo. The background and experience here is evident, as you can feel the intentional thought and love inside every flavor. They specialize in handcrafted, local and seasonal small batch ice creams. Vegan choices are available as well, so everyone has something to enjoy.

Some of the recent standout flavors are cinnamon toast crunch, salted cantaloupe sorbet, goat cheese brambleberry pie, blueberry tiramisu, peanut butter honey, and cookies n’ cream. With such an array of creative flavors, it’s so hard to choose just one. My personal recommendation…try them all! I had a ball sampling throughout my experience. All the workers are so helpful, they’ll even let you taste a few on a small spoon if you’re undecided between a few.

I was pleased to also find out all of their ice cream cones are handmade in store, throughout the day; adding to the Big Spoon authenticity story. For $1.60, they have regular waffle, sugar, and even a chocolate cone. My personal favorites that I’ve recently tried are the cinnamon toast crunch, and the goat cheese brambleberry pie. Of course the cinnamon toast crunch tastes just like the cereal, but the process is much more complex than you’d think. Cereal milk is chilled for 24+hours to let all the flavors marry. You can only  imagine how amazing this flavor would taste inside an ice cream sandwich. Goat cheese brambleberry pie may be the most immaculate ice cream mixture I’ve ever had. The goat cheese ice cream is bitter enough to complement sweet blackberry and blueberry jam perfectly. The pie crust pieces mixed in add a great crunch factor as well.

If you want to kick up a notch and really treat yourself, I highly recommend checking out one of their sundaes. Sundae options are ‘the original’, ‘the big spoon’, ‘the little spoon’, and the ‘banana split’. Both of the ‘spoon’ sundaes have a dark chocolate rum brownie base, and it’s SO good. They are then topped with scoops of vanilla bean ice cream, malted fudge, salted caramel, candied hazelnuts, amarena cherries, caramel glass and coffee whipped cream…I promise your sweet tooth will be more than satisfied.

There’s no way I could speak on Big Spoon Creamery without mentioning their ‘Banana Split’. This take on the classic sundae is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Two scoops of vanilla bean, bruleed banana, pineapple passion fruit compote, graham crumb and vanilla whipped cream…left me way more than impressed. This sundae deserves awards!

In the heart of downtown Huntsville, you can now dine-in or take to-go some of the most elite ice creams and sundaes. Be sure to stop by Big Spoon Creamery!
