Let me tell you about one of my favorite new places in the heart of Huntsville. Located on the corner of Whitesburg and Bob Wallace is a locally owned restaurant called Hound and Harvest. What started as an idea between Garrett Hardee, Bobby Jordan and Keenan Tipton can now be considered one of Huntsville‘s freshest locally owned spots in town. I sat down with my friend, Bobby Jordan, to hear how the restaurant came to be.
“We knew that whatever it was going to be, it was going to be healthy.”
With all three owners having different backgrounds in spirits, healthy food and coffee, they knew they were on the right track for something unique.
“We wanted to have healthy options that people could add whatever they wanted to on the menu. Many restaurants have healthy options, but only on a smaller menu section. We wanted to flip that. You’re getting a healthy meal with nearly every item here, and then you can add whatever you want to the dish you’d like. It’s all great-tasting food, and it’s good for you.” Bobby was not lying. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch!
Although the food is a highlight to Hound and Harvest, it isn’t the only highlight. Their outdoor space is unmatched on Whitesburg Drive. What was once an entire yard of flowerbeds has been converted into a remarkable mixed-use space. It is now filled with picnic tables, outdoor games and a fantastic 1974 airstream that is a terrific photo op and will eventually be an outdoor bar. There are also evening concerts in the works, with hopes to start in early July.
“We plan to use this area for many special events.” I know I’m looking forward it.
One of my favorite things about writing for We Are Huntsville is highlighting Huntsville-specific spots that take great pride in their craft and city. Hound and Harvest is exactly that. Go see them and have a great time!
