Or maybe a great mustache?
Are you creative and willing to fake it?
Maybe you just like to admire fantastic facial hair while enjoying fine entertainment, food, beer, art and a great silent auction. Most importantly, maybe you want to help out KeepVolunteering as they raise money at the 2nd annual Rocket City Beard and Stache Bash on April 27!
Keep Volunteering
It was two years ago, on April 27, 2011, that deadly tornadoes devastated our area. Alice and Donald Brown saw a need. When the power came back on and most of us got back to our “normal” lives, there were still people who needed assistance and were in danger of falling through the cracks. The couple founded KeepVolunteering as a grass-roots effort to keep people involved and to continue assisting in relief work and responding to disasters.
Since then, KeepVolunteering has grown tremendously, building a network of good people and resources providing everything from debris removal to re-building for families affected by disaster.
I spoke to Alice about KeepVolunteering and the organization has a lot of great things on the horizon. Alice told me they are “by the community, for the community.”
And, KeepVolunteering is 100% funded by community donations. All donations are earmarked by the donor, and right now they are working on getting into a new building.
“We just want to help in any possible those affected by disaster,” Alice said.
Dixieland Beard Coalition
Coincidentally, Donald, who has an awesome beard, founded a chapter of Beard Team USA called the Dixieland Beard Coalition. Most of the coalition members also volunteer with KeepVolunteering.
As the one year anniversary of the April tornadoes approached and KeepVolunteering was really taking off, it seemed only natural to have a fundraiser that married the two organizations! (Pun totally intended!) Last year’s first Rocket City Beard and Stache Bash drew 400 people and raised $4,500 for KeepVolunteering and this year, it’ll be bigger and better!

The Bash Part
The Rocket City Beard and Stache Bash is an all-ages event taking place at Lowe Mill ARTS and Entertainment. There is a suggested donation at the door. ID’s are checked and armbands are provided for those over 21. Local breweries Straight to Ale, Blue Pants Brewery, Back Forty Brewing and Yellowhammer will be there and food will be provided by Schnitzel Ranch. You may also BYOB.
There are many ways to participate in addition to attending the Bash. Businesses can become a sponsor. Artists can display beard or mustache-themed artwork. There will be an awesome silent auction. Volunteers are needed. Click here for more information on any of these ways to get involved in this unique Huntsville event.
Our area will never forget what happened on April 27 two years ago, but we can create new memories and help an organization that wants to help us back if disaster ever strikes again. [spacer size=”0″]
