Huntsville Greenways & Trails

Mayor Tommy Battle and Parks & Recreation Director Bernita Reese are urging citizens to “get out and play” during Parks & Recreation Month in the City of Huntsville.

“Our residents have struggled for more than a year to find ways to stay active during the pandemic,” Reese said. “With things slowly beginning to take a turn for the better, we are encouraging people to safely take part in all of the activities the City’s Parks & Recreation Department has to offer this July.”

Huntsville Parks & Recreation offers more than 70 parks, 73 miles of greenway, 12 recreation centers, three splash pads, four swimming facilities, six disc golf courses, as well as athletic fields and complexes throughout the City.

Parks & Recreation encourages residents to follow them on Facebook and Instagram all month long to learn about the vital services they provide for citizens. With a wide range of activities and resources for all ages, the department looks forward to meeting the needs of its diverse community.

“Our City and department are leading initiatives and providing opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to achieve healthier lifestyles, promote and understand nature and conservation, as well as bring the community closer through a variety of programs, events and services,” Reese said.

Why it matters

COVID-19 highlighted the essential role Parks & Recreation played in the wellbeing of our community. In response to the pandemic, City employees worked quickly to keep parks, trails and green spaces open to support the physical and mental health of residents while delivering vital services and programs to support our community.

Parks & Recreation Month helps to provide the community with the information they need to enjoy the City’s parks and recreation amenities. For more details, visit our Parks & Recreation resources:
