21 and Over Movie Review

Look, 21 and Over is nothing new. We have all seen this movie before. Best friends from high school meeting up to celebrate something a few years later. You always end up with the kid that doesn’t want to grow up, the kid that has grown up then the one in the middle (this one always ends up being the closet “crazy”).

Throw a bunch of alcohol in the mix, add some sorority initiation rituals, a fat guy in a diaper and a buffalo…boom you have yourself a movie! 21 is brought to you by the same guys that brought us The Hangover (Jon Lucas , Scott Moore ) so they have a little bit of street credit when it comes to this type of fun movie.

The Story

This is the story of straight laced college student Jeff Chang (Justin Chon), an aspiring doctor with an over bearing father. Wouldn’t you know it?…he has an important medical school entrance interview the morning after his 21st birthday.

His friends Miller (Miles Teller) and Casey (Skyler Astin) show up to surprise their friend and take him out for his coming of age rite. After learning about the important meeting he has to attend with his father the next morning, promises of “just 1 drink” are made (these always end up being the best nights) and off to a night of unplanned debauchery we go.

The general premise is that they didn’t bother to write down or remember where their very inebriated friend (Chang) lives. Dad is coming in 3 hours, Chang only speaks drunk….what to do?!

Perspective from the over 21 crowd

21 and Over…yes, sadly while watching this movie I realized that I am getting way on to the “over” part of this movie. Here are some of my realizations.
The rational part of me kept thinking:

I don’t believe a buffalo can digest something like that without getting very sick
How in the world is that sock staying on without some kind of tape?
Could I drink that much milk?
Seriously, how is the sock staying on while he is running?

Part of me could not help but be briefly confused with thoughts like:

I don’t understand what she means by I have a party to go to LATER…its already midnight
I sure hope my sister didn’t have to do this to get initiated in to her sorority
Where are all the freaking cops on this campus??

Like I said, we have all seen this movie and it will not by any means be added to the library of congress’s historical movie data base. It is what it is and that is a bunch of good laughs and a general feeling of wanting to go back to your fraternity house and dominate in beer pong for a night.
