University Pickers
3405 Triana Boulevard
Huntsville, AL 35805
One of my favorite places in Huntsville to shop for eclectic, homemade, or repurposed home decor and gifts has expanded to a new, bigger location. University Pickers has moved from University Drive to Triana Boulevard, across the street from Merrimack Hall in the historic Merrimack Mill neighborhood.
Whether you’re a University Pickers regular or if you’ve never been, here’s a few reasons why checking out their new location is a must-do!
24,000 Square Feet
That’s twice as much as space as the old location, and the new place is two floors. That means more booths, bigger booths and more space for vendors to showcase their wares. The new space feels less crowded and more welcoming.
Big space, Big Variety
It’s a big space but it’s also big on variety. Themed booths showcase a plethora of items from homemade jewelry to boutique clothing to locally-made candles and soaps to up-cycled furniture. Shop more than 100 local businesses and artists, and that number is growing! You can even shop for paints and craft materials to use on our own DIY projects!
Restrooms
The new location has public restrooms, for men and women, on both floors. This is very important as you’ll probably be shopping for hours and are sure to need to visit the facilities while you’re there.
Take the stairs.
Or, take the elevator. Accessibility isn’t an issue with an elevator to easily transport guests who need it. The aisles are wider too, which will make it easier for guests to maneuver wheelchairs and strollers.
Photo Opp!
At the top of the stairs is a fun photo backdrop where you and your shopping friends can take a group pic or selfie. Share your pics on social, hashtag #universitypickers.
Earline’s Cafe
Stop by Earline’s Cafe upstairs for a Dang red cream soda in a bottle. The 50s-diner vibe — complete with a juke box — is a nice place to rest and refuel with a snack or drink so you can shop til you drop.
Events … coming soon!
Owners (and sisters) Trish Gleason and Cindi Pope are making plans for summer movie nights in the backyard, food truck nights, backyard games, and live music. Follow their Facebook page for announcements about those.
A Little Bit of History
While new to University Pickers, the building itself is not new. In fact, it’s historical. University Pickers’ new home is the site of the old Joseph J. Bradley School, one of Huntsville’s first schools. The school served families and children in the Merrimack Mill community from 1919 – 1967. History buffs will want to check out the historical marker in front of the building.
